High Intensity Femtosecond XUV Pulse Interactions with Atomic Clusters

چکیده

The interactions of large xenon clusters irradiated by intense, femtosecond extremeultraviolet pulses at a wavelength of 38 nm have been studied. Using high harmonic generation from a 35 fs near-infrared terawatt laser, clusters have been irradiated by XUV pulses of 10 W/cm intensity. Charge states up to Xe are observed, states well above that produced by single atom illumination, indicating that plasma continuum lowering is important. Furthermore the kinetic energy distribution of the exploding ions is consistent with a quasineutral hydrodynamic expansion, rather than a Coulomb explosion.

Explosion of atomic clusters heated by high-intensity femtosecond laser pulses

We have experimentally and theoretically studied the high-intensity (.10 W cm), femtosecond photoionization of inertially confined noble-gas clusters. We have examined the energies of electrons and ions ejected during these interactions and found that particles with substantial kinetic energy are generated. Electrons with energies up to 3 keV and ions with energies of up to 1 MeV have been obse...

Split-pulse spectrometer for absolute XUV frequency measurements.

A split-pulse spectrometer based on pairs of time-delayed femtosecond pulses can give access to accurate frequency measurements in the extreme ultraviolet (XUV) spectral domain. We demonstrate this approach by measuring the absolute frequency of a single-XUV-photon transition to a bound state of atomic argon excited with the ninth harmonic of an amplified Ti:sapphire laser.

Ionization and dissociation dynamics of vinyl bromide probed by femtosecond extreme ultraviolet transient absorption spectroscopy.

Strong-field induced ionization and dissociation dynamics of vinyl bromide, CH2=CHBr, are probed using femtosecond extreme ultraviolet (XUV) transient absorption spectroscopy. Strong-field ionization is initiated with an intense femtosecond, near infrared (NIR, 775 nm) laser field. Femtosecond XUV pulses covering the photon energy range of 50-72 eV probe the subsequent dynamics by measuring the...

Femtosecond-pulse-driven electron-excited extreme-ultraviolet lasers in Be-like ions.

A suggestion for the generation of extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) laser radiation based on tunneling ionization and subsequent electron excitation of Deltan not equal 0 transitions is described. The favorable scaling of the required intensity of the pump laser with the output XUV wavelength is compared with that exhibited by XUV lasers ased on Deltan = 0 transitions. Calculations for Be-like Ne pred...

Coherent amplification of attosecond light pulses in the water-window spectral region.

We present a theoretical study on coherent extreme ultraviolet (XUV) attosecond pulse amplification mediated by nonlinear parametric enhanced forward scattering occurring in the interaction of a strong femtosecond infrared (IR) laser pulse combined with a weak attosecond XUV pulse train with an atom. We predict large amplification of XUV radiation when the IR strong pulse and the XUV weak pulse...
